Sailor escapes A sailor of the Sri Lanka Navy abducted by the LTTE four months ago has managed to escape and report back to the base on Friday night, according to Defence sources. The sailor was 'captured' in Trincomalee town by the LTTE on May 20 when he was on an outing. He was attached to the Navy Farm at Headworks. The LTTE did not bother to respond to requests made by the Navy to release him, but demanded that three of their cadres in military custody be exchanged when the SLMM ruled that the sailor should be released unconditionally. OIC Muttur IP S. Hewage said, that the sailor had managed to reach the roadblock manned by the Police at Kattaparichchan at 4.30 a.m. on Saturday. - RK |
