Mobitel aims for leadership in sector

Mobitel hopes to become the undisputed leader in the telecommunication sector in the near future, according to Chairman of Mobitel and Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), Thilanga Sumathipala.

The company launched its new logo last Wednesday with the Mobitel letters in white on a green and blue background.

Mobitel CEO, Lalith de Silva said the new logo heralds a new era for Mobitel and creates a new vision for the company. Explaining the choice of colours, de Silva said blue is the Telecom colour, representing the sky under which we all operate and also stands for strength and commitment. Green is environmental friendly and stands for prosperity and energy and white is for purity and integrity. The stand-alone Big M is for power. SLT has also requested Mobitel to commence the second phase of its GSM network covering more rural areas.

Sumathipala hopes to have one million subscribers within the next three years. (PJ)
