On the wings of SriLankan by Pelham Juriansz Saturday, October 11 will be a special day for 54 youngsters selected from the four corners of the country. They will be taken on a journey of a lifetime by SriLankan Airlines. The destination will be Maldives and the occasion, the celebration of a century of civil aviation. The 23 boys and 31 girls, aged between 16 and 19, represent the nine provinces, and were the winners of a quiz titled 'Pathum Piyapath', conducted in all three languages recently by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. The day before the dream flight, the teenagers and their parents will be hosted to a tea party at the World Trade Centre. "This will be followed by an orientation of 'What to do, where to go'," explained Chandana de Silva, Head of Corporate Communications SriLankan. "Then the children will be taken to the Blue Oceanic and Sea Shells in Negombo for their overnight stay. They will be flown to Male on flight UL 101 where they will meet the First Lady of the country and be conducted on a tour of the Ranalhi Island Resort. "We are happy to be able to transform these teenagers' dreams into reality by taking them on this memorable trip. Who knows, there might be a future pilot, flight engineer or chief stewardess among them," de Silva said. "They will also experience flying in a sea plane. Meanwhile, their parents or guardians will be taken on a familiarisation tour of the Bandaranaike International Airport," he said. "We decided on this initiative as we have to invest in the future. We have chosen these children after a quiz to represent the country. It should be looked upon as an investment," de Silva said. |
