Ravi K. calls accountants to the fore Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ravi Karunanayake called upon all accounting professionals to render their skills for the development of the country. "Accountants are still silent in this country; it is high time you actively take part in every development activity," Minister Karunanayake said at the launch of the reciprocal examination exemption scheme of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), for their members. Under this scheme, members, past finalists and final year students of CIMA and ICASL could qualify in the other body by sitting for four papers, which are distinctly different subjects of the other body. He said like lawyers who contribute their part to every commercial activity, accountants too can contribute their professionalism in every important activity for the development of the country. The Minister said the alliance will benefit members of both institutes to the maximum to enhance their knowledge not only in accountancy, but also in management. "We have professionalism with us, make use of that opportunity," Karunanayke, an accountant himself, urged members of both institutes. The Minister appreciated the leading role played by the two institutions in the national interest, in an advisory capacity in national policy making. He also said that no business can function without accountants. As Sri Lanka is entering free trade agreements with other countries, it is the need of the hour to use high professionalism to enhance those opportunities, he added. (HS) |
