Supermarket chain expands

Sentra Super City will soon be expanding to Maitland Crescent, Colpetty and Rajagiriya. "The biggest will be a mega complex in Rajagiriya along the Parliament Road by next year. This supermarket will be over 17,500 square feet and will have a multi-service concept including a shopping mall, cafeteria and a children's play area," Chairman Gamini Seneverathna told a media conference in Colombo.

The Seneverathna Group launched its chain of supermarkets, Sentra Super City (Pvt) Ltd, together with the Sentra Loyalty Card and Sentra Super Savings Deals with the aim of "giving supermarket shoppers value for money products and services".

The group started in Mirihana as Seneverathna Trading Company (Pvt) Ltd. "We are one of the largest importers of sugar in Sri Lanka. We also import rice, lentils and other essential commodities. Trading gave us an insight into the inner workings of the economy and we have always aimed at passing that benefit to our customers. Our competitive approach has forced other supermarkets to be competitive too, so we believe that we are doing a service to the people".

The Sentra Loyalty Card and Super Savings will boost profits and brand loyalty. "The redeemable points earned for shopping at Sentra will facilitate the identification of buying trends, which will enable us the opportunity of providing monthly special offers and promotions to selected card holders. Sentra Super Saving is a monthly promotion that gives customers certain products at discounted prices and certain products free.

The redeemable points earned via the Sentra Loyalty Card also provides discounts at various shops, malls and hotels.

With a staff of over 400, Sentra already has supermarkets in Maharagama, Wellawatta, Rawatawatta and Kiribathgoda. It aims to expand to a florist and laundry as well.

The Group comprises Seneverathna Trading (Pvt) Ltd, Seneverathna Transport Services (Pvt) Ltd, whose 25 lorries transport wholesale commodities around the country, Seneverathna Agencies (Pvt) Ltd, stockist, agent and distributor, and Sentra Super City (Pvt) Ltd.

Joins eChannelling

The supermarket chain has also joined the list of eChannelling partners. Customers will now be able to channel a doctor from any Sentra outlet.
