Geneva Report today by Don Asoka Wijewardena Investigations into the complaints of political victimisation and Human Rights Violations, against the government by 10 Opposition MPs were concluded in Geneva on Friday, and the findings are expected to be forwarded today. The Human Rights Commission of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, began investigating into complaints lodged by the MPs against the government on September 29. Three of the 10 MPs who lodged their complaints with the Union, Interior and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunga, was invited to Geneva for the hearings. Speaker Joseph Michael Perera, Ferial Ashraf MP, Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa MP and A.R.M. Abdul Cader MP were also invited. Employment and Labour Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, who is the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, told the "Sunday Observer" that in accordance with the Commission's rules and regulations, complainants were entitled to choose open or in camera hearings, and added that the findings of the complaints against the government were delivered in secret. |
