LSR offers five scholarships for Mahaweli youth The Windsurfing Association of Sri Lanka presented five scholarships to the youth of Mahaweli region for them to receive comprehensive training in all aspects of water sports. Baron de Livera - President of Windsurfing Association handed over the agreement of the award of these scholarships offered by Lanka sportreizen (LSR) to Gamini Jayawickrema Perera - Minister of Irrigation and Water Management. The youth will be provided with all facilities which include full board and lodging at LSR's coastal tourist resorts. The successful trainees will be awarded certificates at the end of the programme as qualified instructors. The Minister thanked Thilak Weerasinghe - Managing Director of LSR for his magnanimous gesture and also the Windsurfing Association for its unstinted efforts in promoting water sports in rural areas. An aqua-sports display was held recently at the Chandrikawewa reservoir in Embilipitiya. The events were introduced for the first time as part of the 17th Mahaweli Games. |
