Ceylinco-Deccan to help travel within India

The Ceylinco Group tied up with the Indian aviation company Air Deccan to provide economical flights within South India.

As a further incentive to Lankan travellers, Ceylinco Group Chairman, Dr Lalith Kotelawala said he intends to provide a cheap, yet quick mode of transport for local travellers, a helicopter service, within the island.

Air Deccan's Head of Commercial, R. Krishnaswamy said the flight's rates within India will be marginally higher than the train fares in the country. "This of course will be without food or drinks as we are trying to keep the airfare low," explained Krishnaswamy. "The flights will be confined to Southern India and the States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Phase three of the expansion will see flights to Kerala and North India."

The ATR-42-320 aircraft, said to be one of the finest and most efficient Turbo-Prop aircraft, is a 50-seater plane and has been running at 50 per cent capacity during the three weeks since the inception of the airline, India's fourth domestic airline.

Air Deccan is a unit of Deccan Aviation Pvt Ltd, India's largest private heli-charter company. Its Managing Director is Capt G.R. Gopinath. The Ceylinco Group of Companies is the General Sales Agent for the airline in Sri Lanka. (PJ)
