SLFP, JVP go merry-go-round

Confusion still remains about talks between the SLFP and the JVP on a joint alliance, with the SLFP saying it will begin within two weeks, and the JVP claiming that they have not been invited, officially or unofficially for talks.

Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary Maithreepala Sirisena told the 'Sunday Observer' that talks will begin in about two weeks time, and assured that this time they would reach a positive agreement as both the parties have decide to be flexible. JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa said that they were ready to talk with the SLFP at any time, but added that they have not been invited for talks.

The five-member committee comprises SLFP General Secretary Maithreepala Sirisena, Parliament MPs Nimal Siripala de Silva, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Susil Premajayantha and Tudor Dayaratne. (DPL)
