Leo Burnett aims to conquer advertising summit

by Pelham Juriansz

Leo Burnett, currently enjoying fifth place in the rankings of advertising companies, hopes to secure the top spot in the near future, ousting companies like Phoenix Ogilvy, their nearest rival in the Asia Pacific, and J. Walter Thompson.

Ranil de Silva, Managing Director, Leo Burnett Solutions Inc, said they are the third largest communications group in the world. Their operation revolves around creativity, which speaks volumes for their success.

"Our network has grown by about 15 per cent and we are huge in the region," said de Silva. Richard Pinder, Regional Managing Director of Leo Burnett, Asia Pacific is visiting Sri Lanka to appraise the position of the company and assess the potential for the future.

"In its short four-year history, Leo Burnett has achieved much," said Pinder. "I am encouraged to note that Sri Lanka's future prospects are sound and are based on the performance indicators displayed by the Leo Burnett Colombo office. The company's growth has been commended as the last fiscal year saw a 40 per cent growth in a market where most companies were affected by a global downturn," added Pinder.

Since its inception in 1999, Leo Burnett Solutions Inc, Sri Lanka had distinguished itself by winning acclaim for its creations.

The Leo Burnett Asia Pacific office was showcased as the top creative agency in Asia according to the 2002 Gunn Report. The same report conferred honours on Leo Burnett Worldwide for being the most creative agency worldwide. Pinder oversees 1,500 professionals scattered around 23 offices in 15 countries. He joined the field in 1986 and spent 11 years at Grey where he became Client Services Director. He also served as Managing Director of Ogilvy and Mather, UK.

Leo Burnett operates a global network of over 200 units across 81 markets, including 92 full service advertising agencies.
