Musical Tribute to the Juki girls

A long over due tribute to the Juki girls - the garment industry employees - considered as Sri Lanka's second highest domestic foreign currency revenue earners, is the CD launched by the Joint Apparel Association Forum.

Sri Lanka's foremost musicians have come forward to compose and perform the six songs on the CD with the objective to inspire people to praise and give due recognition to the apparel industry work force. 'Nil Manel' with an accompanying video is sung by Deepika Priyadarshini Peiris is written by Rathna Shri Wijesinghe with musical direction by Rohana Weerasinghe.

The theme of the song elaborates on the 'bread winner' role the Juki girl plays in her family. Other tracks are 'Saptha Sayurin Eha' sung and composed by Victor Ratnayake.

The lyrics for this song is written by the acclaimed Professor Ajantha Ranasinghe and focuses on the accepted fact that the employees are 'economy drivers' who 'power Sri Lanka's journey into the world.' 'Made in Sri Lanka' an upbeat song sung by Bathiya and Santhush reaches out with conviction.

Unfortunately the video could have carried clips of the garments being purchased in foreign shops since the theme of the song is to spotlight Sri Lankan garments as 'a staple in the truly global household.' The lyrics were written by Nilar N. Kassim and the music composed by Ranga Dassanayake.

In collaboration with Sunil Sarath Perera, Amarasiri Peiris sings a lyrical 'Ran Huyen' in a somewhat soft rock tempo. Rukantha Goonetilake's dedication, is 'Nageniye' which was written by Bandula Nanayakkara-wasam. The music is by Nawarathna Gamage.

The theme of 21st century women for a 21st century world' is aptly sung by Nirosha Virajini. The song written by Kapila Kumara Kalinga is musically arranged by the modern duo Husni and Suresh.
