2005 Diversity immigrant Visa program Colombo, Application to the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program for 2005 (DV-2005) will open on November 1 and close on December 30. This has been announced by the US State Department of State in Washington, DC. Under DV-2005, persons from Sri Lanka and other eligible countries can register for the opportunity to apply for an immigrant visa. Applicants are chosen by a computer generated random lottery drawing. Those selected and notified by the department are eligible to apply for one of 55,000 immigrant visas made available annually. To be eligible for the program, an applicant: * MUST be a native of Sri Lanka or of another qualifying country. * MUST have EITHER (a) the equivalent of a US high school diploma, typically successfully completed 'A' Level Examination, or (b) two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform. Commenting of DV-2005, Mr. Marc H. Williams, Consul at the US Embassy in Colombo, said: "the entry requirements are simple, but strict. Simple because they're straightforward and ask only two questions: are you a native of Sri Lanka (or of another qualifying country)? Have you completed your 'A' levels or, if not, do you hold a job that requires serious training or experience to perform. Strict because, honestly, if the answer to those questions is 'no', you'll really mustn't waste your time and money on DV-2005". There is only one way to enter the lottery. Applicants must submit an Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form, which is accessible only at: www.dvlottery.state.gov |
