S. Thomas' has slender 2-goal edge in return clash with Royal

The second leg of the annual Royal-Thomian waterpolo encounter for the Dr. R. L. Hayman Trophy will be played on Tuesday, October 28 at the Royal College pool. The game will start at 5.00 p.m.

The Thomians have slender lead of 2 goals which they gained when they beat the Royalists 3-1 in the 'first leg' played at S. Thomas' College pool on October 17.

Normally the team with the highest aggregate score after both matches will receive the coveted trophy which has been in the hands of the Thomians since its inception in 1992.

It will be a right-royal battle for the coveted trophy. The 'first leg' was keenly contested but the Thomians, with better team effort pulled it off after a keen game. Royalists who showed a lot of courage and spirit will hope for change of fortunes on Tuesday. They still have to win the Hayman Trophy have managed to draw twice in 1999 and 2001. The Thomians will have to improve their attacking skills and avoid delaying taking shots at goal. In the junior match played for RCUAC Challenge Shield, the Thomians took a commanding lead by winning the first leg 6-0.

On October 28, the junior game will be played at 5 p.m. while the senior game will commence at 6 p.m.

Wilfred Wickremasinghe who played a major role in getting this encounter started 12 years ago will be the chief guest.
