The well recognised annual international Festival of Jazz Yatra - organised by Jazz India and held in Mumbai, will this year, feature leading Sri Lankan musicians representing Jazz Unlimited.
The Jazz Festival will be held for three days - November 7-9 2003 and will showcase sixteen international bands. The Sri Lankan All Star Band, all members of Jazz Unlimited, will be led by the talented Dilukshi Sirimane - pianist/keyboardist and includes Revel Crake - guitar, Alston Joachim - bass, Aruna Siriwardhana - drums with vocalist Jean van Heer. The musicians are all well acclaimed and actually need no introduction in our music scene. Pianist Dilukshi Sirimane leads her own jazz quartet Jazz Projekt and plays regularly at JAIC Hilton. Revel Crake one of Sri Lanka's leading guitarist, now plays with Jazz Projekt. His smooth and compelling guitar has always been a major attraction, in the music scene. Alston Joachim a powerhouse bassist, and a leading one at that in Sri Lanka, heads his own group Phase 3 and is a popular session musician be it pop, rock, Latin or blues and is at ease in any school of jazz including fusion.
Aruna Siriwardhana now a free lance and high calibre drummer is a much sought after drummer for concerts and recording sessions. Jean van Heer a singer well proficient in the jazz idiom has worked with leading names in the pop and dance field and was the voice in her saxophonist husband Rodney van Heer's band 'Milestones'. The Jazz Yatra Festival will also showcase this year outstanding jazz artistes from USA, Canada, France, Japan, Singapore, Norway, India and fusion artistes L. Shankar/ Zakir/ Gingerr.
