Member of WHO Advisory Committee New Director-General of the World Health Organization, Lee Jong-wook, has appointed Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Member of Parliament, former government minister, to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee of the WHO Centre for Health Development (ACWKC) in Kobe, Japan, for a period of three years. The WHO Centre for Health Development, Kobe, is one of the key centres established by the World Health Organization to deal with many current technical and health issues specially in the areas of health system development, cities and health, and traditional and alternative health system development. It has embarked on many new areas of research connected with emerging health issues over the world. Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva who served the Executive Board of the World Health Organization for a period of three years, from 1997 - 2000, was elected to the post of Vice-Chairman of the WHO in 1999. Mr. de Silva is the sole representative of South-East Asian and SAARC Region in the Advisory Board. |
