New era if PA-UNF join - PM

Three ministries in the hands of the President and peace negotiations in charge of the government is like an elephant in one place, and the `hendu' (the goad carried by the mahout) in another place, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said this in Mawanella at a UNF meeting yesterday.

"Everyone was in favour of the United National Front government and the PA working together. If that happened, a new era would dawn in Sri Lanka," Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

If the peace process is not kept going, the economy of the country would be affected.

The LTTE had said that the South was not in favour of continuing with the peace process, while they were. If the peace process was not continued, there was no guarantee that peace in the country would remain, the Premier said.
