SLIM Awards 2004 to boost marketing by Hiran H.Seneviratne The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) will conduct its 15th SLIM Awards 2004 on February 28 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre Colombo to pursue excellence in marketing through effective marketing communication. The most glamorous event in the marketing industry calender, this year has been themed "Bond on Cross Boundaries to gather".It will reward and recognise the importance of the marketers who communicate synergies in different marketing brand buildings. The main sponsor of the event is 3M Lanka (Pvt) Ltd who will be sponsoring the SLIM Awards until 2006. The event is aimed at creating a joint fund for the advancement of the marcom industry in Sri Lanka. The fund targets to generate Rs 1 million. This joint fund will be managed by SLIM along with 3M Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, for a period of three years. The media sponsors are the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL),Sha FM and Sun FM. Co-Chairman, SLIM Awards Committee, Thushantha Karunanayake, said that they would reward those who had done outstanding work for the industry in 2003 and others who had helped develop marketing communication industry, to attain global standards. SLIM President Prof, Kamalagoda said the objective of holding an awards ceremony of this nature is to enhance the marketing which plays a dynamic role in the economic development of the country. He said that awards would be presented in two categories Advertising (TV, Radio and Press) and Integrated Marketing Communications. All advertising and marketing communication companies can compete by submitting original creations release for the first time between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2003. To compete in the Advertising awards section, the agency must be accredited by leading agencies. The best of the best awards for the print Ad of the year, radio commercial of the year and campaign of the year is on the agenda. Three judges from local advertising industry, two from the international industry and three professional marketers will adjudicate the competition. The entry with the highest marks in round three will also receive Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. There will also be a craft recognition for craft contributors in the print radio and TV media. |
