Walas Pavula : A lesson of love, humanity and care by Vimukthi Fernando What made Ruwanmalee (Goldilocks) throw away her dancing dolls, tin soldiers and parrots? How did she traverse all alone, facing the dangers that lurked in the jungles? What made the little bear forgive the intruder who not only had drunk his bowl of soup but also broke his chair and slept on his bed? It may be just a popular bedtime story from the west, but 'Walas Pavula' the adaptation of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' by veteran actress, playwright and director Somalatha Subasinghe offers much to our Sri Lankan audience. With over four decades of experience and much expertise in the theatre and especially in children's theatre to which she devoted over 20 years, Somalatha brings out the lessons of love, humanity and care for nature. Walas Pavula, and Ruwanmalee will undoubtedly be the heros of the children. It will also stay the centre of attraction with adults who take pleasure in the beauty of childhood, animals and nature.
