Second Dialog scholar for Malaysian university

Dialog GSM has granted a scholarship to another outstanding student. Amila Pradeep Kumara, a 20-year-old from Matara, is the latest recipient of Dialog GSM's Overseas Scholarship to deserving students who excelled at the GCE Advanced Level Examination.

Amila will spend the next four years at the Multi-Media University (MMU) in Cyber Jayah, Malaysia, pursuing a Bachelor of Science (Engineering) specialising in Telecommunications. This old boy of Rahula College, Matara was ranked among the top 25 students in the Mathematics stream at the GCE Advanced Level Examination of 2002. His outstanding academic performance made him an ideal candidate for Dialog GSM's overseas scholarship programme, which seeks to build a talent pool of telecommunication professionals in Sri Lanka.

Chamila Wickremasinghe, who was awarded the first scholarship from the 2002 Advanced Level Batch, has already made his mark at the University, having excelled at his first trimester examination to be top of his batch.

The Dialog scholarship programme sponsors the best Advanced Level and Ordinary Level performers in each of the 25 districts in the island, who wish to continue their education in the Engineering stream.

The programme is administered in collaboration with the Ministry of Education together with the University Grants Commission. The Rs. 30 million Dialog Scholarship Fund supports 54 student sponsorships in addition to two fully paid scholarships to the MMU which are granted to the finest.

The university is one of the leading technology universities in the Asia-Pacific region and the Yassasan Scholarship Trust of Malaysia has joined hands with Dialog GSM and its parent company, Telekom Malaysia to enable the scholarships. Each scholarship to the MMU is over Rs. 2 million in value and covers all expenses including tuition fees, monthly food and lodging allowances, book allowances, insurance charges, visa and ticketing charges, and graduation allowances.
