Visa Electron Cards over the counter Seylan Bank the first bank in the country to introduce Visa Electron Card have launched a pilot project involving three branches to issue Visa Electron Cards over the Counter. The branches will have pre encoded cards and any customer whose application is accepted can get the card over the counter. At present it takes two weeks to process the application and issue the card said Chief Manager Seylan Card Centre,Tissa Nanayakkara. Upto date we have issued 1,25,000 Cards and it is increasing daily he added. The card can be used as an ATM card as well as a charge card and all transactiosn done using the card either at an ATM or at a merchant has direct access to the cardholders Account be it a rupee account or a foreign currency account. This unique card has access to approximately 650,000 ATMs worldwide to enable withdrawl of cash 24 hours a day 365 days a year. All Seylan bank ATMs and any bank which has VISA accredited ATMs can be used to access the account, be it in Sri Lanka or around the world. The card can be used at any VISA accredited merchant outlet. Since this is a online card manual transactions are not possible.Therefore the merchant should have an EDC machine to accept the electronic transaction. He said people in Sri Lanka still think that this card can only be used at banks while many do not know that it can also be used at merchant outlets. Therefore to create awareness and to increase the popularity we launched the promotion program " Magic moment." The people who use their cards for five minutes of the day at a merchants location got a full refund of their purchases during the promotion period December 1-15. This novel promotion has helped us to double the usage of the card as well as the volume of transactions said Nanayakkara. " We hope to launch a similar promotion in April for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year," he added. |
