Meadow Lea now comes direct Meadow Lea table margarine will now be distributed directly to its wide and expanding customer base in Sri Lanka, through its principals. This leading brand of premium quality table margarine has so far been distributed in Sri Lanka through agents of Goodman Fielder International of Australia. The recent acquisition of Goodman Fielder group for A$ 2.4 billion by yeast major Burns Philp Group of Companies has made the group one of the largest food conglomerates in Australia and New Zealand. Burns Philp is a global company with manufacturing facilities in 32 countries and operations in 65 countries. The acquisition would bring some of Australia's leading food brands like 'Uncle Tobys' breakfast cereals and bars, 'Praise' mayonnaise and dressings and Meadow Lea, Olive Grove and Mothers Choice table margarines under the wings of Burns Philp throughout the world. Burns Philp has been in the Sri Lankan market for the past eight years, with its main focus on the bakery and industrial sectors, which is one of the core categories for yeast and ingredients. Burns Philp Lanka, a wholly owned company of the Burns Philp Group, claims to be the market leader in the bakers' yeast and ingredients sectors. Its Mauripan and Prime brands of yeast hold dominant positions in their respective segments, while the range of industrial margarines like Simas and Marina also lead the market. The acquisition of Goodman Fielder would further strengthen Burns Philp's position in the Sri Lankan market. The addition of brands like Red Heart premium quality cake, margarine and the range of industrial margarines and fats under the Mayflower brand would also provide Burns Philp Lanka with a wide range to cater to the needs of the bakery sector that is evolving to meet the needs of a changing and sophisticated end consumer. With a staff strength of over 200, Burns Philp Lanka is looking to introduce its new enhanced range to Sri Lankan consumers. Its Director Sales, S.B.M. Padmasiri reiterated the group's concerted efforts to introduce quality and affordable products to the market, and stressed that all products would come from Australia. Burns Philp's combined assets now total US$ 4.5 billion with the company being responsible for both manufacturing and distributing its products. The Group CEO, Thomas Degnan said Burns Philp's position, as Australia's No 1 food manufacturer, has been strengthened, and that they intend to further expand the product range. |
