Balangoda School for the deaf receives soundproof studio

Caltex Lanka Lubricants Limited handed over a soundproof studio unit to Yasodhara Deaf and Blind school Miriswatte, Balangoda situated in the Ratnapura District as a part of the Caltex social responsibility project.

Managing Director CLLL Kishu Gomes said "going with our belief to be an integral part of our responsibility to the communities ,we serve; his Board of Directors unanimously decided to embark on a project to help the differently -abled communities." He said that having set a new trend towards social responsibility being a private sector company ,he is glad to note that more other companies are following suit.

However, as a private sector company we at Caltex believe that giving back to the society is an important aspect of our operation and is governed by the values set by our parent company Chevron Texaco- "Our Company's foundation is built on our values which distinguish us and guide our actions.

We conduct our business in a socially responsible and ethical manner. We respect the law ,support universal human rights, protect the environment ,and benefit the communities where we work". With this value in mind we hope to be the "most admired" lubricant company in every endeavour we make.

Out of the 19 schools for the deaf and blind registered with the Department of Social Services in Sri Lanka, 12 schools were listed to be donated with goods worth Rs.6 million during the 1st phase of the Caltex Social Responsibility project. The second phase of the project ,which is worth another Rs 3.5 million, will kick off once the remaining two schools obtain their aspirations of phase 1.

Each of the schools will receive goods worth Rs.500,000 and included essential items such as bunk beds ,computers ,braille machines, hearing aids ,soundproof rooms, roneo machines etc. Some schools received the funds to a special account that would enable them to start construction work on buildings that were needed so desperately.
