Get set - for 'Country Roads'

The dawn of the new year 2004 will see Country Music in the limelight when the Country Music Foundation will stage its now famous Country Road concert on January 11.

This time the concert the 12th in the series will be held in an open air carnival atmosphere at the Taj Airport Garden Seeduwa. Country musicians from two continents will share the stage with Sri Lankan performers in a unique musical event to raise funds for rural schools in the southern province.

The popular Dirk Maverick and his Germany - based Mavericks band will return for another exciting performance and will be joined by Texas-based Bob Livingston, an acknowledged country artiste who has performed along with Willie Nelson and other country greats. The Sri Lankan country musicians who will guest at the event will be Cosmic Rays and other artistes which is under finalisation. CMF is quite confident that the concert will provide an interesting blend of American and European country music and along with the Sri Lankan flavour, the experience is bound to be exciting at the picturesque lagoon at the Taj Airport Garden Hotel.

As in the past the Country Music Foundation will be in association with UNICEF in the presentation of the Country Roads. The main sponsorship is from Emirates, the award-winning Dubai-based international airline and Cargills (Ceylon) Ltd. owners of 'Food City' the supermarket chain.

Tickets for the concert which is a worthy fund raiser are priced at Rs. 200/- and will be available at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, Taj Airport Garden, Seeduwa and at Cargills Food City outlets at Staples Street and Majestic City.

So get set, reach out for your Wild West attire that you have safely locked away and be a part of this cowboy scene complete with horseback riders, hawker street stalls and barbecues at the Country Road XII concert on January 11 in the New Year 2004.
