Thera's organs with toxicologist

The Government Analyst's report that will perhaps finally lay to rest speculations about the cause of Ven. Ganogodawila Soma Thera's death will be released on Monday evening.

Specific organs of the Thera were handed over to the Government Analyst's Department by the Judicial Medical Officer on Tuesday for further investigations. The Department is analysing the organs to determine whether there are toxic substances.

Government Analyst, K. Sivaraja told the Sunday Observer that the toxicology section had begun studying the samples on Wednesday and that investigations were still proceeding. He added that the case should be handled carefully and it will take time. He also said the department may have to seek the assistance of foreign experts for further investigations of the findings are inconclusive. He however, said that his team of toxicologists will release the final report by Monday.

Speculations have been rife, about the cause of Ven. Soma Thera's death, despite the JMO's verdict that the death was due to natural causes. - SS
