Train fares up from tomorrow by DEEPAL WARNAKULASURIYA The Railways Authority has reneged on its 'no fare-hikes' pledge and will be increasing train fares by a whopping 60 per cent for short distance and 40 per cent for long distances from tomorrow (January 05). SLRA Managing Director N.F.U.K. Fernando said that they obtained Cabinet approval for the hike two weeks ago and new fares were being implemented after a week's awareness campaign.
