Beer bottle bookmark: Company admits to printing but says had no hand in distribution The Lion Brewery Ceylon Ltd has admitted the printing of the controversial bookmark promoting a brand of beer that raised a furore when it was distributed among schoolchildren outside certain Colombo schools at the height of the festive season last month. However, Lion Brewery Premium Category manager Ranjan de Silva insisted that the company had no hand in the distribution of the book mark outside schools. The bookmark had been printed for insertion in a cable television service magazine to be distributed only among the cable subscribers, de Silva told the 'Sunday Observer'. The bookmark was also distributed with the December issue of Noel magazine, he said. "As a policy we have never marketed our brands to any person under the legal drinking age and we categorically deny any involvement in the distribution of these bookmarks near schools", de Silva said. "We intend taking up this matter with relevant schools and law enforcement authorities", he added. |
