Medicina Alternativa Nominated for Excellence for Global Health 2004 Medicina Alternativa 1962 (affiliated to The Open International University for Complementary Medicines) has been nominated for the Bill and Melinda Gates Excellence Award for Global Health for 2004. This accolade has been popularly renamed "The clean Nobel Prize of Microsoft". Medicina Alternativa Chairman, Professor Anton Jayasuriya has decided that in the event of the organization receiving the laureateship, the prize money worth ninety six million rupees, would defray towards the continuing welfare of poor patients, the aged, disabled and the rehabilitation of the sick and of neglected indigent pensioners who attend the many clinics in which they receive Complementary and Alternative (CAM) health treatment. Established in 2000 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the award seeks to recognize an organization that has made a major and lasting contribution in the field of global health. Administered by the Global Health Council, this award for excellence comes with a US$ one million honorarium to further their meritorious work. The winner of the Bill and Melinda Gates Award is to be announced in March, 2004 and the award will be presented during the Annual Awards banquet of the Global Health Council on June 3rd, 2004 in Washington D.C., USA. |
