Chamil Wickremasinghe - a 'double' in Chivas Regal golf

The Chivas Regal monthly medal golf tournament that was worked off at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort in Kandy on 27th of December had over 50 players battling-it-out for the Chivas Regal trophies that were up for grabs.

The Chivas Regal Monthly Medal was sponsored by Periceyl (Pvt) Ltd a joint venture company between Groupe Pernod Ricard France and Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Victoria Golf & Country Resort Kandy.

It was an encouraging sight to see so many enthusiastic golfers participate during the holiday season. In fact it is one of the best turnouts for a monthly medal held at Victoria. Sidath Wettimuny, who scored an excellent nett 69, established the morning session lead. Binupa Wijesinghe equalled Sidath's score but on a count back Sidath prevailed. However another junior Chamil Wickremasinghe blitzed the opposition with a stunning round of nett 54.

He also won the junior division to have a double.

In no way were the ladies to be out done as they put up a very competitive and challenging performance with the winners and runners up separated on a 2 stroke difference.

But the day belonged to the juniors as they put on a splendid display of golf with their drives and putts to carry away most of the prizes that were on offer for the monthly medal.

Overall results of the Chivas Regal Monthly Medals:

Men's divisions: Winner - Chamil Wickremaisnghe nett 54, 1st Runner-up - K. Hama nett 64, 2nd Runner-up - Sidath Wettimuny nett 69
