Singer Service Centres wins ISO certification The Service Division of Singer Sri Lanka has been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certificate thus gaining recognition for its quality management systems by SGS Lanka Limited. The ISO 9001 certification covers the Singer Regional Service Centres in Colombo, Kandy, Anuradhapura and Matara. Describing the ISO certification as "a proud possession" of any company, Singer Chairman Hemaka Amarasuriya said that Singer employees have proved that world standards are within their reach. "This is only the first step. We cannot stop at this. We must strive to achieve higher goals. It can be done by continuing the team effort displayed in the recent effort," he added. Tracing the background towards achieving the ISO Standard, Commercial Manager Mahesh Wijewardena said that they embarked on the project as the start of a dream of becoming a company with world-class after sales service. "It was a tough task specially when the majority of the divisional employees were on-the-job technicians with comparatively less administrative ability. Projects like the 5S and internally designed competitions paved the way towards the effort to obtain ISO certification. More importantly, we succeeded in changing the mindset of the employees to put them into the right track," he said. He thanked the Consultants, Swiss Advantage (Pvt) Ltd. for guiding the Company in the ISO project, the employees for the dedication and commitment, and the top management for extending their whole-hearted support. |
