IFR accolade for Deutsche Bank Deutsche Bank, Europe's second-largest bank by assets, recently won the accolade of Best Bank of 2003, which was awarded by the International Financing review (IFR) magazine based out of London. The magazine, in giving out the award, said: "In 2003, deutsche developed a relentless and urgent drive to succeed. It was aggressive, fast moving, innovative, and highly results focused. The big change in Deutsche's investment bank in 2003 was the alignment of core businesses along a single strategic track. On the strength of its performance in 2003, the bank looks to have embodied the drive, vision, passion and commitment necessary to be a bulge-bracket player in global corporate and investment banking." The award underscores the strength and breadth of deutsche Bank's global platform, this is well demonstrated in its widening global bond franchise. According to figures compiled by Bloomberg, Deutsche Bank and just one other bank are the only financial institutions to have a global market share of over eight per cent. The nearest rival has five per cent share. Deutsche Bank's market share for last year stood at 8.3%, a 2.47% increase over 2002's recorded market share of 8.1%. Deutsche Bank has underwritten international bonds amounting to USD 181.16 billion last year, compared with USD 134.485 billion in the previous year. Deutsche Bank's US dollar bond franchise has continued to make significant strides, largely due to continued investment by the firm in trading, sales and research expertise. Market share has risen steadily in the league tables in US debt from No. 10 in 2000 to No. 5 this year (September year to date). Stefan Mahrdt, Chief Country Officer for Deutsche Bank in Sri Lanka, said this growth 'Deutsche Bank has developed well beyond its traditional European strength and this shows the confidence that US and non-US borrowers have in Deutsche Bank's ability to place US dollar denominated bonds.' For the fifth consecutive year, Deutsche Bank is the leading underwriter of all Euro bonds in 2003. Deutsche Bank is a market leader in all Euro bond asset classes and is a driving force in innovation and market development. In the first nine months of 2003, Deutsche Bank was the leading arranger of corporate bonds in Euros, investment-grade bonds in Euros, financial institution bonds in Euros and Euro-denominated high-yield bonds. In Asia, Deutsche Bank has been the only bank to be involved in all Sovereign Debt issuance in the region in 2003 year to date. "These recent rankings clearly confirm what many of our clients have known for some time - Deutsche Bank's distribution platform is world class and competes directly for top global position with the US franchises, including on their own turf, and is a clear leader in Euro issuance. Deutsche Bank has proven to be a very competitive and efficient conduit in taking both sovereigns and Asian based companies to global investors," said Mr. Mahrdt. IFR magazine also awarded Deutsche Bank AG Bank with the Best Thailand Bond House and Best Singapore Bond of the Year for the UOB USD 1 billion Subordinated Bond. The Asset also awarded Deutsche bank AG last year with Best Debt House in Australia, Taiwan and Thailand, and Best Asian Currency Derivatives Bond House. The magazine also awarded Deutsche bank deals, UOB USD 1 billion subordinated Bonds and Hutchison Whampoa Global Bonds, as Best Bank Bond and Best Investment Grade Bond. Deutsche Bank also picked up Asiamoney's Best Sovereign Bond of the Year for the Republic of the Philippines USD 750 million Global bond offering. |
