Harcourts flag flying high in hill capital

Harcourts opened its 5th Super Drugs & Family Store in Kandy on January 11 at 47, Kings Street at a colourful ceremony.

This sprawling Super Drugs & Family Store provides a relaxed cozy ambience with all modern convenience like airconditioned comfort, credit card facilities, door delivery and many more. Prof. Aponso, the well-known consultant paediatrician, was the chief guest.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Mr. Ahamed Rheyas said, "Today is not just the opening of one more outlet for me. Today is a big day, personally for me, because this day has culminated in the realisation of a long-cherished dream. Till now there has been a vacuum, a gaping hole in our business set up. We did not have a base in Kandy. "I am a Kandyan to the very root. Having been born and brought up in Kandyan environment, having breathed the hill country air during my formative years, I always longed to own a base in Kandy. It was a private and personal dream. Today the dream has been realised.

Harcourts started at a time when the country's pharmaceutical business was almost totally in the hands of western multinationals. The general public could not afford even many of the common drugs for ordinary ailments. The speciality drugs in the Cardiology, Neurology or allied sectors were totally out of reach of the common man. He had only one choice - either cough up the required amount or face death.
