Enjoys being a singer

Scheduled to jet off to Malaysia last Friday (Feb. 06 to sing and compere at a Sri Lankan Airlines promotions was Clifford Richards, now a familiar figure in today's music scene in Sri Lanka.

A product of Trinity College, Kandy who always had a fascination for music in his pre teenage years, Clifford was an active member of the College Choir taking part in practically all the concerts and after he left Trinity began a musical career with Srinath - a one man band in Kandy. He decided to spread his wings, move into Colombo and entered for the Karaoke Competition in 1993 held by the Mount Lavinia Hotel which he won with ease.

Five years ago he was a singer with the group Friends in Harmony and had the opportunity to tour Doha and the Maldives with them. A free lance singer, radio presenter on SLBC, English TV news reader on ITN, Clifford confesses he enjoys being in music.

Name: Clifford Richards

Birthday: March 27

Status: Married

Fav colour: Black. (We thought the New Year will see a brighter change!)

Trendy outfits: I'm not a guy who flips over today's fashion and wants to follow trends. I'm quite traditional and I have nothing particular to mention.

Hair do's: No gels, spikes and highlights for me. Actually I'd love to shave off all the hair on my head and be a baldie, but my wife won't hear of it - she thinks my head is slightly off-shape, so its short hair cut for me.

Fav music: Despite all the other categories, like soul, reggae, rock, pop will be my favourite mainly because I'm a singer.

Fav songs from 80s/90s: From the '80s Lionel Ritchie's song 'Hello. From the '90s actually to think of it nothing stands out.

Embrassing day: Gosh! there was this day while I was reading the news on TV, I suddenly noticed a fly hovering around me and immediately it decided to take a rest on my nose. I froze! How it could have come into an air condition room beats me!

What are the qualities you like in a girl: She should be down to earth, simple, understanding and caring. Hi flyers don't fall into my arena!

How much of a party guy are you: In my teenage years, yes it was important but now since I'm a singer and a compere at dances and other functions, the attraction has waned a bit and frankly I give partying a skip.

How do you reject advances from girls: In my profession I'm faced with these moments, but then I know where to draw the line and make sure that I never cross the line.

Are you superstitious: No I am not. When I want to do something I go ahead and do it and forget about date and time.

What's your pet hate: People who cannot mind their own business.

What makes you happy in life: To be with friends who feel that I am not a pain to them or to anyone else around me.

How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: That's a little difficult to say, considering I'm a cool kind of guy.

What keeps you awake at night: Absolutely nothing! I have been blessed with sleep in abundance. Even the thought of the whole world collapsing on me will not keep me awake.

Where would you like to be most now: Here in Sri Lanka of course. I am very happy where I am now.

What other profession would you like to be in: I'm an engineer, I'm into agriculture, I'm a singer, I don't think I could be a doctor, so I can't see myself in any other profession.

What would you do if you ruled the world: I would make sure that laws of a country are applicable to everyone, no matter who the person is and will try very hard to rid society from corruption.

If you change anything about yourself what would it be: The bad temper I get into occasionally, they say it is not good for your health.

What would life be like in the year 3000: Technology would have advanced by then, I'm sure, and people would go to Mars for a long weekend! I would probably experience it if I'm around.

Do you like to live dangerously: That's a definite no! I'm a cool kind of guy, I go easy on life.

Which product would you like to most endorse: Chocolates.

Your fav cartoon character: Tin Tinuition.

The worst hit song: I cannot think of one.

If Elvis were still alive, what would he be doing: I guess he would be still singing his heart out.
