Butterfly symbol for new alliance

Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake on Friday, accepted the newly formed United People's Freedom Alliance, commonly referred to as the SLFP-JVP Alliance, as a new political party and assigned the 'Butterfly' as the party symbol. The Alliance had earlier chosen the lotus as its symbol.

Nandana Gunathilake, JVP Parliamentarian for the Kalutara District was named as the Party President and Susil Premjayantha, SLFP Parliamentarian for the Colombo District, was named the Party Secretary. The executive committee of the new party is scheduled to nominate the lists of office bearers before the end of this month.
