by KANDY SPORTS CORR.

It was the day of Sam gunaratne, a former Vidyartha College cricketer as he had the 'Golden Touch' and whatever he touched turned out to be a winner at the 2nd Annual Ananda Golf Championship organised by the Ananda College Business Group in conjunction with the Victoria Golf and Country Resort which was worked off at the Victoria Golf Links.

Sam Gunaratne despite a being slimly built is: Powerful hitter of the ball and he totted up the highest nett score of 10 to carry away the Col. Henry Steele Olcott Trophy for the Open Event with Anandian Vasantha de Silva finishing runner-up with 38 Nett after having tied with former national cricketer Sidath Wettimuni but on a count back Wasantha de Silva finished winner.

Sam Gunaratne next won the competition for the Highest Score on six hidden holes Stableford score by totting up 16 nett. Then he rode his luck on the score card draw by winning the return air ticket to London and back. His luck was so strong that day when the draw was held in the afternoon, the first three card winners did not show up and it was when the lot was drawn for the fourth time that Sam Gunaratne emerged winner.
