14-year-old Pathirana bowls Trinity to 1st innings win over Kingswood by S. M. JIFFREY ABDEEN - Kandy Sports Corr. Trinity College's 14-year-old left-arm spinner Sachith Pathirana celebrations his selection as the captain of Sri Lanka under 14 cricket side by capturing 5 for 38 to bowl his side to a first innings win over Kingswood College in a thrilling Lemonade Cricket Tournament match concluded at the University Grounds, Peradeniya yesterday. Supporting the tantalising spinners of Sachith Pathirana was medium pacer Madhuranga Munaweera who captured 4 for 26. But Kingwoodians almost stalled the lions in their victory bid when their last pair of Mahes Dhammika and Asiri Amerasinghe held on for 18 overs before the former was dismissed by Pathirana in the first ball of final over of the match. Trinity owe their victory to the fine bowling of Munaweera and Pathirana which was backed by some superb fielding Asiri Udumulla took 3 catches from a close in position while Ishan Ratnayake held two brilliant catches underlying the old adage catches win matches. Kingswoodians could have saved this match if their middle order batsmen had played with some sense of responsibility. They 134 for 5 at one stage and they collapsed to 139 for 9 - losing 4 wickets for 5 runs. Sachith Pathirana bowling with guile and venom triggered off the collapse and Munaweera polished off the tail. Trinity: 220 for 6 overnight, 260 for 8 decl. 96 overs 440 mts (A. Ariyaratne 27, M. Muneer 23 not out, Pulastha Ratnayake 5 for 52). Kingswood: 163 all out in 78.1 overs 303 mts. (N. Jayasuriya 34, M. Dissanayake 43, S. Wijesinghe 16, P. Rathnapala 14, A.
