St. Peter's ahead in drawn game by LAL GUNESEKERA The schools cricket match between Royal and St. Peter's at Reid Avenue yesterday ended in a tame draw, but the Preterites obtained easy first innings points. They made 263 in 80.5 overs in the first innings, while Royal managed to get only 196 in 75 overs. When stumps were drawn with three overs remaining, the Preterites were 85 for 2 in 35 overs. Royal who were 49 for 2 overnight were helped by three valuable partnerships. Gayan de Silva (32) and Danushka Edusuriya (63 with 10 fours in 83 deliveries) put on 42-runs for the fifth wicket. Then, Edusuriya and skipper Tharaka Kottehewa (39 with four boundaries) made 46 for the seventh wicket, while Kottehewa and Nadun Punchihewa (15) added 41 runs for the eighth wicket. Left-arm leg-spinner Sohan Boralessa with 3 for 39 was the most successful bowler for the Preterites with the two seamers Umhar Samsudeen and Shanaka Fernando chipping in with two scalps each. Peterite opener Hans Fernando was in good form in their second innings striking eight fours in his 44 and putting on 70 runs for the first wicket with Delan Udugamasuriya (23).
