NCP 7 - wkt win over CP

North Central Province (NCP) pulled off a stunning 7-wicket victory over Central Province (CP) with a day to spare yesterday at the NCC grounds in an Inter-Provincial Cricket Tournament match.

North Central Province's surge came after Central Province were bowled out for a mere 180 runs in their second essay, after the former had closed their first innings on the overnight score of 386 for 8 wickets in reply to 305.

When Central Province took second lease, once again the batting revolved around Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara who struck a fine 78 in the wake of his first innings 96 as pace bowlers Gayan Wijekoon (3 for 42) and Akalanka Ganegama (3 for 36) made inroads.

Wijekoon capped his bowling performance by leading the way with the bat with a top score of 32 in his side's triumph.

Central Province 305 and 180 all out (Kumar Sangakkara 78, B. Perera 36, Jeevan Mendis 33, Gayan Wijekoon 3 for 42, Akalanka Ganegama 3 for 36).

North Central Province 386 for 8 wkts declared and 103 for 3 wkts.

(Gayan Wijekoon 32, Lanka De Silva 21, Praneeth Jayasundera 26 not out).
