'Tajima' unveils new range

Tajima Colombo (Pte) Limited, the exclusive agent for Tajima multi-head computerized embroidery machines manufactured by Tajima Industries, Japan, a market leader on embroidery worldwide, exhibited the latest technology by launching three brand new models, at SLECC hitherto not seen in Sri Lanka. The two-day exhibition, which opened on Jan. 24, displayed models ranging from single to 20 heads available in 9, 12 and 15 colours.

On the theme 'Embroidery Technology Today', Tajima Colombo considers the exhibition one of the biggest events in the calendar of the local apparel industry with the emphasis beyond the 2005 quota free era. "Where quality and productivity survives in the apparel industry, our objective is to create awareness in the apparel sector about this newly innovated technology which we feel will be a factor towards improving quality and productivity, a vital component in the country's journey towards an era beyond 2005, quota free for USA and other markets," explained M.M. Hassan, Chairman/Managing Director of Tajima Colombo at the inauguration ceremony.

The new Tajima TMCE series, which was on display, has the flexibility to switch from lock stitch, chain stitch and moss stitch to chenille embroidery. The high-tech laser cutter enables dedicate design processing such as marking and delicate applique cutwork.

"With the local apparel industry providing direct and indirect employment to over one million people, there is a clear need for our industry to become more technologically savvy and this is our contribution towards achieving that goal. These machines provide employment for over 3,000 in the embroidery industry, generating over US $70 million annually in foreign exchange."

Tajima Colombo is perceived as the undisputed market leader in Sri Lanka with over 75% market share.

The company comprises 130 in its specialized team, which includes four expert engineers trained in Japan.

Representing Tajima Industries Ltd. from Japan at the exhibition were Hiroyuki Kondo, Naryhiko Ono and Mr. Tsuyoshi Kato.
