TISL urges transparent elections

Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL), an organisation against corruption, has appealed to the President, Prime Minister and all political parties to engage in a transparent and accountable electoral process.

Expressing its views on the decision to hold General Elections, TISL has also requested all public institutions responsible for conducting polls to strictly follow the rules governing elections without fear or favour.

The TISL states that the decision to hold the polls has caused irreparable damage to the national economy. The forthcoming election is the third within a period of four years.

The TISL firmly believes that the democratic electioneering process should be exercised with care and in a more accountable manner and should not be for short-term political gains.

TISL also urges the military, police and other institutions to cooperate with the Commissioner of Elections to hold free and fair elections. (AP)
