Rukman Herath dies

Squadron Leader Rukman Herath, formerly of Sri Lanka Air Force died under tragic circumstances on January 29, 2004.

He had his education at D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo. He excelled as an allround sportsman. He played cricket for the college from under 13 up to the first XI. He was a fine allrounder being a seamer and sound batsman with many winning knocks under his belt. He was adjudged the best bowler of the Coca Cola Trophy final in 1987. He also played rugby football for the college first XV. After leaving school, he represented Tamil Union and Air Force in domestic cricket tournaments.

Whilst in the Sri Lanka Air-Force, he spent most of his career in the battle-front doing duty and service to his motherland. He has had narrow escapes during the height of Tiger terrorism, but bravely faced all the challenges and never tried to back out.

He leaves behind his wife and only daughter. May our colleague 'Rukman' attain the supreme bliss of Nirvana and may the turf lie softly on his coffin.

His friends at DSSC OBA
