New dimension to risk management

NatWealth, one of Sri Lanka's most innovative investment banks has joined hands with Refco Ltd, a leading international diversified financial solutions provider, in a pioneering venture to develop the promising futures and options market in the country. NatWealth's vision is to introduce a new dimension to risk management enabling organisations to not only identify and measure risks but also manage such risks, with the use of appropriate tools that are available in the world financial markets.

As an initial step, NatWealth together with Refco has organised a two day seminar/workshop to discuss the concepts of futures and options trading in the management of risks. The objective of the seminar is to provide an opportunity for decision makers in the private and public sectors in Sri Lanka, to gain an insight into the various sophisticated derivative products used in the international financial and commodity markets.

Participants will also be able to gain an understanding of the workings of the Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX), a foremost monetary exchange in the region.

A.S. Jayawawardena, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, will deliver the keynote address at the opening session to be held on the 23rd and 24. This Seminar will be conducted by Senior Executives of Refco Singapore, who are all experienced professionals with a fair knowledge of international markets. The topics for discussion include introduction to hedging exposures in exchange rates, interest rates, commodity prices (crude oil & gold) through the use of derivatives. It will also deal with legal and compliance issues involved in operations at SIMEX.
