TNA to take neutral stance at polls by Ananth Palakidnar The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which will be using the Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA) for the North and East as its campaign platform, will take a neutral stance and not align itself with either of the two major political parties. Informed sources told the Sunday Observer that the LTTE, which played a key role in finalising the TNA candidates, will support the party that is prepared to seriously consider the ISGA proposals. The TNA, which has established itself as a party representing the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam will be filing its nominations tomorrow and is expected to release its election manifesto middle of this week. The manifesto is being prepared along with suggestions from the LTTE's political wing. The proposals submitted by the LTTE in October last year for an Interim Self Governing Authority to the UNF Government of Ranil Wickremesinghe will be placed prominently in the TNA manifesto and the campaign will be centred on it, sources said. According to sources, the TNA, with new faces in the fray is expected to gain more seats than it had won in the previous polls. Meanwhile, reports from Vanni said that 266,875 persons are eligible to vote in the LTTE-controlled areas in the North-East region and that discussions are currently taking place to explore the possibility of making arrangements for them to cast their votes. |
