'Browns' Chairman passes away

Well known business leader J.C.R. Chrishantha Cooray passed away on March 11 (Thursday) morning at the age of 60 after a brief illness.

He was the Chairman of the Browns Group of Companies and its principal associate, Hatton National Bank Ltd. Cooray counts over thirty years experiences in trade,commerce,industry and finance.

An old boy of St. Joseph's College Colombo 10, he entered the Aquinas University College from where he proceeded to the United Kingdom for his Accountancy studies.

At a very young age he became a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and he was also a member of the British Institute of Management. Cooray hails from a distinguished family and his father the late Senator Edmund J.Cooray was a former Minister of justice in the Dudley Senanayake regime.

He leaves his wife Pamela and three children,a daughter and two sons,two of whom are employed at HNB. His remains will lie at his residence no.14,Dawson Road (Amarasekara Mawatha) Colombo 5.The cremation will be at the General Cemetery Kanatte on Sunday at 4 p.m.
