Raomal is also a co-founder and director of the leading Sri Lankan software engineering company - Affno.

The winners were announced at the gala 2004 GSM Association Awards dinner on February 24th in Cannes during the 3GSM World Congress.

This is a major endorsement by the global GSM industry of the company's payments technology which is being used by mobile and fixed line operators, ISPs, financial services institutions and retailers worldwide to deliver a range of payment services.

Now in their ninth year, the GSM Association awards recognise excellence and innovation across the wireless communications industry and are open to companies whose products and services support the market for the GSM family of technologies. The awards programme for 2004 included a stronger emphasis on the consumer and corporate benefits of wireless technology, in order to reflect the more widespread use of the technology.

The GSM Association is the world's leading wireless industry representative body, consisting of more than 600 second and third generation wireless network operators and key manufacturers and suppliers to the wireless industry. The Association's members provide digital wireless services to more than 646 million customers and the GSM Platform accounts for approximately 70 percent of the total digital wireless market today.

"It is testament to the recognition of the value of these unique wireless industry Awards that the entries go from strength-to-strength," commented Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association.

The Applications & Services Award which includes three main categories, Best Mobile Application or Service - Corporate Market, Best Mobile Application or Service - Consumer Market, and Best Mobile Application Developer, is based on demonstrated business benefits, success statistics and best use of available technologies.

"The GSM Association Awards are one of the most prestigious ones in the wireless industry, designed to reward companies with specific recognition through a wide variety of award categories. They mark the importance of wireless technology and set a high standard for these solutions worldwide. We are delighted to win such an award which emphasises the benefits which our suite of payments products brings to users worldwide," said Raomal Perera.

Awards were presented in six categories including: Applications & Services, Technology Innovation, Marketing & Promotion, Mobile in the Community Awards, as well as The GSM Association's Chairman's Award.

Valista finds itself standing with an impressive mix of global winners including Vodafone Group plc, Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile International, SMART Communications (The Philippines), O2 and China Mobile who received the GSM Association's Chairman Award on achieving 1 billion GSM customers.

Valista's product portfolio includes micro- and macro-payments, multi-channel top-up, service delivery, user profile management and cash replacement. All Valista products support multiple access channels and payment models, allowing consumers to transact wherever they are, however they pay.
