Unlimited practical hours to develop IT skills and the freedom of choice regarding the time period of completing a given course are two other features. TGKICT also has two projects to develop the Information Technology skills of the members of the armed forces-both past and present. The CISCO-RANAVIRU project is aimed at enhancing the IT skills of disabled servicemen by providing them with 100% hands on training on the use of daily office computer applications, at the Nugegoda and Kurunegala centres. While disabled armed forces personnel receive IT training in this manner, those presently enlisted are given the opportunity to enrol in IT training classes conducted within 13 army bases island-wide. Members of the Army, Navy and Air Force have the choice of selection from 6 options for 4-month courses conducted in a mini-computer facility within each base. As a social responsibility project, the Institute commenced a scholarship scheme last June in collaboration with the Mahapola Board of Management. As part of the Mahapola's "Nana Udana", a partial-scholarship is given to deserving students. |
