Launch of Pirelli by Elmo Leonard Pirelli tyres, the Italian make of tyres, is back in Sri Lanka, with Amila Tyres (Pvt) Ltd, appointed sole distributor. Many Pirelli dealers from Italy, India and the United Arab Emirates, were in Colombo, last week, for the launch. Pirelli has the second largest global market for tyres, carrying the highest range put out by a single manufacturer, according to Pirelli's General Manager in Europe, Lorenzo Arrigoge. Pirelli relaunched in Sri Lanka, convinced that the island nation would experience unprecedented growth, from now, on. Sri Lanka has a road network of 108,500 kilometres and 25,000 kilometres of weather paved roads. It is intended that, the Pirelli rugged tyre types would be used in Sri Lanka, according to Amila Tyres' managing director, Samantha Hewageegana. Sri Lanka imported 140,000 vehicles in 2001, and imports of the range and numbers, is expected to grow, according to a consultant, for Pirelli operations, here, Nalin Attygalle. The Pirelli range encompasses most of the types of tyres used extensively in Sri Lanka, including passenger bus, truck, light truck and automobile, but, not the `three-wheeler' type. Pirelli, also manufacturers tubeless tyres. Amila tyres, started operations 24 years ago, and has a wide distributorship, its chairman, Gemunu Seneviratne said. |
