Pre-poll ultimatum by doctors by Shanika Sriyananda The striking doctors giving the government a pre-poll ultimatum have threatened to resign from their posts if their demands were not met before the General Election on April 2. More than 10,000 doctors employed in state-run hospitals have said they will resign from their posts, if they do not receive a positive response from the government. Earlier Finance Minister K. N. " We do not want to wait till the new Parliament meets because we made our demands prior to the dissolution of the Parliament", he said. Meanwhile, further aggravating the problem doctors attached to the administrative service of the health sector have also joined the trade union action yesterday. " Starting from the Director General Health services all the government doctors in the administrative service have joined the trade union action", Dr. Perera said. Health Ministry sources said the decision would cripple the entire administrative functions of the health sector.
