UNP declares State media boycott It's official. The United National party has formalised its 'boycott' of the State media and will not invite coverage of party activities, in either the print or the electronic media which come under State control. Confirmation to this effect came from senior UNP members, who accused the State media of being biased and failure to maintain impartiality, in their coverage. The UNP official, who did not want to be identified, said that the decision to formalise the boycott was made after their failure to have UNP members appointed to the Presidential Media Commission. However, the Presidential Secretariat refuted the claim saying that the UNP had not forwarded any names. General Secretary of the United National Party, Senarath Kapukotuwa confirmed that the UNP would not provide information about the activities of the UNF or statements on important issues to the State media in the future. Minister of Employment and Labour, Mahinda Samarasinghe, said that UNF had decided to stop using the State media because it had not been publishing news with impartiality. - DAW |
