Solheim to call on President, PM The Norwegian special envoy Erik Solheim is expected to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge tomorrow to discuss the current political situation before his departure to Norway on Tuesday. Solheim who is on a fact finding mission travelled to Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Trincomalee to study the current situation with regard to the split in the LTTE. He also met LTTE political wing leader S.P.Thamilselvan and the newly appointed eastern commanders of the organisation in Kilinochchi. He has urged the LTTE leadership in Vanni to abide by the ceasefire and sort out their problems without leaving room for clashes. It is learnt that the Norwegian envoy had not accepted an invitation by the renegade eastern leader of the LTTE `Colonel' Karuna to meet him in Batticaloa. |
