Anandasangaree says campaigning at great risk Former leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Jaffna district Independent group lead candidate Veerasingham Anandasangaree said that his group campaigns in the Jaffna district at great risk. Anandasangaree, who left the TNA following the tussle with his own party men and the leadership of LTTE, leads a 12-member independent group under the 'Padlock' symbol. He told the Sunday Observer that his independent group had been under severe threat since the campaign was launched. He said that it has been brought to his notice that 40 motor cycles and two jeeps were going around in the Jaffna district with the intention of disrupting the campaigns of non-TNA candidates. "Around 7000 leaflets and posters printed in support of my party were set on fire close to the University of Jaffna last week. Private transport operators including three-wheeler owners have been warned not to provide transport facilities to our candidates," Anadasangaree said. Commenting on his campaigning in Jaffna, Anandasangaree said that his independent group was unable to stage any public rallies and they have been campaigning through newspapers published in Jaffna. "We have to struggle in an undemocratic atmosphere to reach our supporters and carry out our campaign. We do not know in what form danger will strike us", he said. He also said that he has informed government officials of the inconveniences faced by his party. When questioned about the split within the LTTE, Anandasangaree said that he did not want to comment on the issue but admitted that he was watching the developments just as the others in the North and East.
